Welcome to Critter Lovers at Work (CLAW)
Critter Lovers at Work (CLAW) is an all-volunteer support group that plans and produces events to raise awareness and funds for local animal rescue organizations.
CLAW’s mission is “to save and protect animals, provide care and medical treatment, advocate for their welfare, and enhance the human-animal bond”, through planning and producing special events, raisinf money for a variety of specific, 501c3 organizations, that assist pets and their guardians..
These special events raise much needed money — which pays for top-notch veterinary care for the most critically injured animals, who, once restored to health, can be placed into the loving homes they deserve.
Founded by Jill H. Kramer in 1987, CLAW’s mission was to promote public awareness of and community support Animals, and to have fun doing it. CLAW’s first events were The Great Cat and Dog Fair, and the inaugural holiday windows at Gumps — which featured dog and cats available for adoption.
The holiday windows moved to Macy’s Union Square, and have been there every holiday season from Thanksgiving through New Year’s for over 30 years. Since 1987, CLAW’s fundraising has continued with events such as the Bare Bones Bash, Animal Wing Ding, Cinderella Luncheon, and CLAW’s signature event — the Bark & Whine Ball™.
To date, CLAW has donated nearly $1.5 million — earmarked to pay veterinary bills for the most needy animals (homeless, sick, and injured) that have come into shelters, and prepare them for adoption.
2017 marks The 20th Bark & Whine Ball — CLAW’s single largest, annual fundraising event — as well as the 30th anniversary of CLAW. All are welcome to attend with their well-behaved dogs!
You’re Going to Fall in Love With This 3-Legged Hero Dog
In 2014, German Shepherd Isky and his handler, Army Sergeant Wess Brown were patrolling in Afghanistan when they were ambushed. With bombs going off, Brown hustled to get his dog back into their vehicle. Isky’s front right leg got caught on the stairs and broke in six places. Brown too was badly injured. “I didn’t care,” he says. “I was worried about him.”
Bark & Whine Ball™ Benefits
The Cinderella Fund
The 20th Bark & Whine Ball is being held on October 26th, 2017 at the San Francisco Design Center Galleria. This year we will pay tribute to military veterans and their support companions. Proceeds from the gala will go directly into the Cinderella Fund to benefit US War Dogs Association, Shanti/PAWS, Rocket Dog Rescue, and SaveABunny.
It will be a memorable evening for pet owners and their pets, who will walk the red carpet, enjoy fine dining, drinks, dancing, entertainment and bidding on fabulous items in a Live Auction.
